Final Book Report

I will talk about my favorite book. It is " different worlds". It is the love story. It was written by MARGARET JOHNSON. She was born in 1919. She was an American jazz pianist who accompanied many famous jazz musicians of the 1930s. As a teenager, she played in the bands of Harlan Leonard on tour. At the age of 15, she had already formed her own group. In 1936 she took over for Count Basis when he left his Orchestra for an engagement in Chicago. In the course of her time working with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, Johnson has worked on a majority of the film’s agency accounts. She was a major contributor to advertising campaigns of Haagen-Dazs, Yahoo!, and Logitech. In 2008, Johnson produced a short film titled “Dunkumentary”, which featured at the Short Film Corner at Cannes. She is currently working on a novel titled “Don’t kid Yourself” with her husband. I will introduce the contents of the story. A deaf woman Sam fell in love with Jim who works at the store witch she can see from her house. Then, they met at the party and became a friend. They gradually attracted each other. But ex-girlfriend appeared. Sam was told a story about Jim which he plays band by his ex-girlfriend. However, she didn’t know it. Sam worried why he didn’t tell me only and thought it was my ears. Then, Sam’s heart has left from Jim. Sam thought she and Jim live in different worlds so she should not like him. Sam thought he wanted a girlfriend who can hear his music and she ‘s not good for him. However, she loves him very much. She was sad and angry. In the other hand, Jim thought she is good for him and wanted to be with her. So, they decided to be together. And they spent happy life together. They can live together even if they live in a different world. As long as there is love. I wrote down some quotes and will discuss them. First, “Mum’s really good with children. I remember when I was quite young- five or six years old- I was sad about something. I don’t remember what Mum said. We sat in a chair together with her face close to mine and she put her arms around me. We stayed like that for a while, and then she sat back so she could talk to me. Mum and I use our hands and fingers to talk to each other. It’s called signing. Anyway, Mum said that we can choose how to be in life – happy or sad. She said, ‘Life’s short, so choose to be happy.’ I try never to forget those words.” I like this part because I and my mother are similar to this. I was very sympathetic. I thought the bond between daughter and her mother was wonderful. ‘Life’s short, so choose to be happy.’ I like this phrase very much. Second, “As I kissed him back, I forgot to be afraid. This was Jim and I loved him. There was nothing to be afraid of. After a few moments he moved about a metre away and started to sign to me. He made some mistakes, but I understood. Just as he understood when I spoke to him. And I remembered his fast hands on the drams… There was no problem. This is what he signed to me: “Your mum taught me some sign language. Now I’ll teach you to play drums. Come with me.” Before I could answer, Jim took my hand in his. We moved to stand with his friends. Mum was smiling at me. Everyone was smiling. Jim stood behind me and his hands were on my hands and then I was playing the drums. And the vibration travelled from the drums to my hands and up my arms to my head. It was wonderful. As wonderful as my small hand on the front of Mum’s guitar.” I felt happy because at the end of story they were happy. I want everyone to read this book.
