My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady, by ALAN JAY LERNER(1958)

This week I read My Fair Lady. This book was very long so I will described the contents very easily. Professor Higgins bets with Colonel Pickering over whether to make Eliza a lady. Eliza is getting more and more sophisticated. This story is the growth of Eliza and the romantic comedy of men around her.  I liked this story. I wrote down three quotes and will discuss them. The first one is: “Your English accent is absolutely terrible” (p.4). I thought the man who said this was very terrible. The woman was bullied by him and I was shocked. The second one is: “Eliza repeated it, again perfectly, with no London accent at all!” (p.18). I like this sentence because Eliza practiced English accent many times and She succeeded! Then she sang songs with happy feelings. The third one is: “You know I’m in love with you, Eliza!” (p.28). I like this sentence because it is romantic. It must make her happy.

I want to recommend this book because it was easy to read and there were some songs in the book. So I could enjoy reading it. But I sometimes couldn’t understand the story.  This story is also a movie so I would like to watch it!!

Emil and the Detectives

Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner (2000)

I read Emil and the Detectives. When I picked up this book for the first time, I thought the cover of this book was very cute! So I want to read this book.

I will talk about the outline of the story. Emil decided to travel alone to his grandma’s hometown of Berlin. Somebody stole his money while he is napping in the train. He thinks the criminal must be a man wearing a hat so he follows the man. Emil and boys of  Berlin investigate the criminal like adults. They plan to arrest  the criminal closely. Then...

I thought this story was interesting. I have read books like this but they had a scary atmosphere. In the other hand, this book have a heart-warming atmosphere. Children try to arrest the criminal by giving wisdom. I like this scene the best!

CHEMICAL SECRET  by TIM VICARY (2000)

I will talk about outline of this story first of all. John and his two children lived together. His wife died so he was very depressed and quit his job so they lived a poor life. After that, John got a job which makes paint and earned a stable income. However, he noticed that his company was discharging dirty water into local river. Christine, Jone’s daughter got married to Simon who is a environmental journalist. One day, they go to John’s company and Christine fell into a polluted water and drank its water. She was a pregnant woman so she worried that her unborn baby was safe. She thought that her father took part in pollution problem so she kept away from his. On the other hand, the company told John to lie but he told everything he knew. Then, he was dismissed and started a poor life again. Half a year later, Christine gave birth to a healthy baby.

Next, I will talk about quote of this book.
“He got up, put on his coat, and went downstairs. There was a cold wind outside, blowing from the sea. The sea and the sky were grey and miserable.” This parts express his feelings. I thought he was so sorry through his story. I was sad to think his feelings.
