A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens(2008)

This week I read A Christmas Carol. I wrote down three quotes and will discuss them. The first one is: “After listening for a moment, Marley’s Ghost started crying too” (p.33). I like this sentence because I thought Scrooge and Marley have been loved each other for a long time even if Marley died. The second one is: “The ghosts were all miserable because they wanted to help the people below” (p.34). I thought ghosts are very kind to them so I felt warm. The third one is: “A Merry Christmas to everybody! Shouted Scrooge” (p.70). I like this sentence because I was happy to see Scrooge’s cheerful figure. He recovered his smile after meeting Marley’s ghost.

I don’t recommend this book much. It was a little difficult so I couldn’t understand story contents. There were some difficult words. I want to be able to read this book easily. I give this book 6 stars of 10.

Different WORLDS

Different WORLDS, by MARGARET JOHNSON (2003)

This week I read Different WORLDS. This book is a love story of deaf woman. I liked this story because it was very nice story. I wrote down three quotes and will discuss them. The first one is: “But Mum and I are very close, and I couldn’t tell her something that wasn’t true” (p.9). I like this sentence because I and my mother are similar to this.  I was very sympathetic. The second one is: “Then, he showed me another way to goodbye” (p.30). The another way is a kiss. The deaf woman can’t hear the man’s voice. But he expressed it with a kiss instead. It was very romantic. The third one is: “Because this was the Jim who played music: this was the real Jim” (p.43). I like this sentence because the woman could see the real Jim that she had never seen before.

I want to recommend this book. I was thrilled on the way, but at the end I could feel happy. So I want many people to read this book. If people live in different worlds, they can be together. I give this book 10 stars out of 10.

Within High Fences

Within High Fences, by Penny Hancock (2005)

This week I read Within High Fences. This book is a love romance. I liked this story because it was difficult love and I wanted to go to the next page more and more. I wrote down three quotes and will discuss them. The first one is: “And when he smiled that beautiful smile, my heart jumped again.” (p.13) I like this sentence because Nancy fell in love with George. I was excited. The second one is: “I put my arms around Harriet.” (p.44) I like this sentence because Nancy and Harriet were best friends. And their friendship was wonderful! The third one is: “I knew George and I were going to be together.” (p.47) I like this sentence because Nancy and George became happy in the end. I was happy too.

I want to recommend this book. There are several reasons. First, it was just right to read.  I enjoyed reading this book. Also, the story was very good. This is the story which Nancy falls in love with George who are an asylum seeker. It was not easy for them to be together but they loved each other so they could be together. I like this story. I give this book 10 stars out of 10.

Go, Lovely Rose and other stories

The door opened at last, and they were inside the pub. There was a smell of smoke and beer, sandwiches and warm bodies. But she said, "There 's a smell of flowers in here. Can you smell it too?"

There were some stories in this book. I like "The Daffodil Sky" the best in them. I couldn't image the story in the end. Bill loved Cora and Cora loved Bill. They brought luck each other. I thought this story is very happy story at this moment. However, I realized I was wrong. They were no good for each other. Cora had another man. So Bill's jealousy was quiet and slow-burning, but it was very strong and deep. Then came the news about their baby. At last he went to see the man and killed him. I was very scared. I thought that jealousy would change people.
